Day 1. Airport Pick Up + Transfer to León + León’s Cathedral Tour

Welcome to Nicaragua! Upon your arrival at Augusto C. Sandino International Airport in Managua, our friendly team will be there to greet you and provide a comfortable transfer to the historic city of León, located about 1.5 hours away. Along the way, enjoy scenic views of rural landscapes and volcanoes that hint at the adventure ahead.

After check-in and a short rest, we’ll begin your Nicaraguan on a budget journey with a guided visit to the iconic León Cathedral, the largest cathedral in Central America and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Learn about its fascinating history, climb to the rooftop for panoramic views of the city and surrounding volcanoes, and take in the rich colonial architecture that defines León’s character.

In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant or explore León’s lively streets at your own pace. Rest up—your adventure has just begun!

Day 2. Morning at your own pace + Volcano Boarding Sunset Tour

Start your day with a relaxed morning in León. This is the perfect time to stroll through the vibrant city streets, visit a local café for a traditional Nicaraguan breakfast, or explore nearby art galleries and markets at your own pace. León’s laid-back charm and rich culture offer plenty to enjoy before the afternoon adventure begins.

In the late afternoon, gear up for an adrenaline-filled excursion to Cerro Negro, one of the youngest and most active volcanoes in Central America. After a 40-minutes scenic drive, you’ll begin the 1-hour hike up the black volcanic slopes, with your guide sharing insights into the geology and history of this dramatic landscape. Once at the summit, take in the breathtaking views before getting ready for the highlight of the day—volcano boarding down the ashy slopes!

Feel the thrill as you descend on a specially designed board, an experience that’s both safe and unforgettable. As the sun begins to set, the sky lights up in brilliant hues, offering a stunning backdrop for photos and reflection. Return to León in the evening with a sense of achievement and stories to share.

After having a good shower in your hotel and removing all the black ash from the volcano, get ready for a delicious and deserved Nicaragua dinner.

Day 3. To Somoto Canyon + Night at Somoto

Today, our Nicaragua on a budget tour goes to one of its hightlights. After breakfast, we’ll depart from León and head north 4.5 hours through scenic highlands toward the Somoto Canyon, this is a National Monument, our journey to this place will take us through rural villages, and changing landscapes. As we arrive in the Madriz department, the terrain becomes more rugged—an exciting preview of the adventure ahead.

Upon arrival in Somoto Canyon, have lunch in a local restaurant and prepare for an exhilarating hike into the heart of Somoto Canyon, one of Nicaragua’s most impressive natural wonders. This lesser-known gem offers a spectacular mix of towering rock walls, turquoise waters, and narrow gorges carved over millions of years. With your local guide, you’ll trek, swim, and float through the canyon, passing through hidden caves and jumping into natural pools (optional, for the adventurous!

After this unforgettable experience in Somoto Canyon, we’ll settle in at Cabañas Gabriela, a cozy eco-lodge nestled in the countryside just outside the canyon. Enjoy a peaceful evening surrounded by nature, with a hearty homemade dinner, some Nicaraguan beers (optional) and a sky full of stars to end your day.

Day 4. To Peñas Blancas Massif + Hike Arcoiris Waterfall

Wake up to the sounds of rural Nicaragua and enjoy a traditional breakfast at Cabañas Gabriela before continuing your journey to one of the country’s most pristine natural areas: the Peñas Blancas Massif, part of the Biosphere Reserve of Bosawás, the second-largest rainforest in the Western Hemisphere.

The drive takes about 3.5 hours and winds through breathtaking highland scenery, coffee farms, and cloud forest ecosystems. Upon arrival at the Peñas Blancas Massif part of our Nicaragua on a budget package, you’ll feel the refreshing change in climate and the rich biodiversity of this lush region. After checking in, we will have a delicious lunch.

At 2:00 pm, lace up your hiking boots for a guided trek through the forest to the Arcoiris Waterfall («Rainbow Waterfall»). This enchanting trails of Peñas Blancas Massif will lead you through dense vegetation, where you may spot exotic birds, butterflies, and tropical flora. Day 5. To Granada + Granada City Tour

After a hearty breakfast in the tranquil highlands of Peñas Blancas, we’ll journey south toward the colonial jewel of Nicaragua—Granada. The drive takes approximately 4–5 hours and offers beautiful scenery along the way, transitioning from misty forests to the warm, tropical lowlands near Lake Nicaragua.

Upon arrival in Granada, check in to your charming hotel and take a moment to refresh and have lunch before diving into the city’s rich history and vibrant atmosphere. Founded in 1524, Granada is one of the oldest cities in the Americas and boasts a colorful blend of Spanish colonial architecture, cobbled streets, and a lively local culture.

At 4:00 pm, enjoy a guided Granada City Tour, where you’ll visit key landmarks such as La Merced Church, San Francisco Convent, and the Central Park, all while learning about the city’s fascinating past. You’ll also have time to admire the iconic pastel-colored buildings and browse local artisan shops.

Wrap up the day with a stroll along the Calle La Calzada, lined with cafes, restaurants, and music—perfect for a relaxing dinner and soaking up Granada’s warm evening vibe.

Day 6. Morning at your pace + Isletas Sunset Boat Tour

Take the morning to unwind and enjoy Granada at your own rhythm. Whether you choose to sip coffee at a sidewalk café, shop for handcrafted souvenirs, or revisit your favorite historic spots, the morning is yours to explore. You might also opt for a relaxing swim at your hotel or a leisurely walk along the lakefront promenade.

In the late afternoon, get ready for a tranquil yet captivating experience on the Isletas de Granada Sunset Boat Tour. The isletas are a stunning archipelago of over 300 small volcanic islands formed by ancient eruptions of the nearby Mombacho Volcano. Aboard a comfortable boat, you’ll cruise through calm waters, passing by lush islets dotted with exotic birds, local fishermen, and even luxurious private homes.

Day 7. Ojo de Agua Ometepe

This morning, after breakfast, leave behind the colonial charm of Granada as you set off on a scenic journey to the mystical spring known as Ojo de Agua Ometepe, formed by two majestic volcanoes rising from Lake Nicaragua. After a 1.5-hour drive to the port of San Jorge, you’ll board a ferry that offers panoramic views of the lake and surrounding landscapes.

Upon arrival, head straight to Ojo de Agua Ometepe, a tranquil natural spring where you can unwind in cool, mineral-rich waters shaded by lush greenery. Later in the afternoon, settle into the serene Charco Verde Hotel, located within a protected natural reserve. Day 8. To Granada + Pottery Workshop + Catarina Lookout

After breakfast, you’ll say goodbye to Ometepe and take a short transfer from your hotel to the port in Moyogalpa, here, we will take a ferry back to the mainland, where your journey continues to the vibrant city of Granada. On the way, you’ll stop at San Juan de Oriente, a charming artisan village famous for its traditional pottery. Here, you’ll visit a local workshop to see skilled artisans at work and learn about ancestral techniques passed down through generations.

Next, enjoy breathtaking views from the Catarina Lookout, where you can admire the stunning Apoyo Lagoon and the surrounding volcanic landscape. As the day winds down, you’ll arrive in Granada, where you’ll check into your hotel, have lunch and enjoy a peaceful afternoon on your own. In the evening, your last special dinner will be in your hotel and then, you can spend the night on one of Nicaragua’s most iconic colonial cities.

Day 9. Apoyo Lagoon Relaxation

Enjoy your final full day in Nicaragua with a relaxing escape to the Apoyo Lagoon, a stunning volcanic crater lake known for its crystal-clear, warm waters and peaceful surroundings. Spend the day swimming, kayaking, or simply unwinding by the water with views of the surrounding forested hills. A delicious lunch by the lagoon will be served, allowing you to savor local flavors in a tranquil setting. In the afternoon, return to Granada, where you’ll have time to soak in the colonial charm and vibrant atmosphere of the city. Day 10. Transfer to the airport

After breakfast, it’s time to say farewell to the land of lakes and volcanoes. A private transfer will take you from the colorful streets of Granada to Managua’s International Airport, a journey of 1 hour. As you travel through the scenic countryside one last time, reflect on the unforgettable moments, breathtaking landscapes, and cultural experiences that made your journey through Nicaragua so special.
